Local Guide: Lynchburg
One hour to the northwest, Lynchburg, the “Hill City,” is nestled in the eastern foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains and bordered on one side by the historic James River. Thomas Jefferson left his mark here with Poplar Forest, his private retreat just outside town now undergoing restoration. Tour Point of Honor, the home of Mr Jefferson’s friend Dr George Cabell, who was also friend and physician of Virginia’s first Governor, Patrick Henry. Numerous restaurants, boutiques and art galleries will round out your visit.
